A bit late in the day, but you might not be aware that Gillmor’s book is available online under a Creative Commons licence at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/wemedia/book/index.csp. Another book worth checking out online is Paul Graham’s “Hackers and Painters”–again from O’Reilly–available at http://www.paulgraham.com. Occasionally infuriating but frequently illuminating. Finally, Bruce Eckel, one of the best writers on learning programming languages, has a number of electonic versions of books on Java and C++ available at http://mindview.net/Books/DownloadSites.

Gavin
I am indeed, I had a good chat with Dan about the media when I met him in London in 2003. Thanks for the links!
