NY Times to take down the wall?

The New York Post is saying that the NY Times is due to abandon Timesselect, it’s pay-for wall that many believe never really made any sense. It’s a good move for the Times and can only bring in more readers – and much needed advertising revenue. Now if only the Irish Times would do the same.

Yea I agree – but even at the moment the amount of advertising on the Irish Times site for those who do pay a subscription is shocking..

ah! good stuff. I’ve been subscribing..that’s one less bill to pay :-) My IT sub is up. Now, if only I could persuade the ST to put the irish articles back online…

I certainly hope they do. I regard the NY Times as one of the best English language newspapers anywhere. I still read the free articles, but I didn’t subscribe because I never would have had time to get through enough to justify it. Yes, I hope this is the start of a trend – and that the IT and Le Monde follow. Much of the latter is available free but some of the more in depth pieces are subscription only. (I would just _love_ to know how many subscribers the IT actually has!)
