It's bullshit. Gráinne Carruth wouldn't have been there in the first place but for Bert's dodgy lodgements.

I've been following all this outside the sphere of the Irish media, for a change, and the striking thing to me is how muzzled they seem.

It is the Sindo after all, a risible paper, but the fact that journalists are not asking difficult questions and hounding after the answers baffles me completely.

I think back to all the people who keep going on about Bertie's legacy, as if the man single handedly brought about the boom in the economy, and I wonder do people realise that this investigation was a simple investigation in to irregularities in his accounts. This was never a trial of a Taoiseach's achievements merely a financial investigation that he himself helped establish.

Alas I read the eulogies and wonder if the people who write them realise that we're in for some serious economic readjustment with inadequate infrastructure and falling revenue.

Sorry for hijacking your comments Gavin I enjoy your blog but I just want to point out three instances of spin that I've perceived over the past few weeks.

1. Mary Hanafin's announcement of the sacking of teachers and relinquishing her commitment to smaller class sizes (front page irish times?)

2. HSE report condemning pretty much every aspect of the organisation.

3. Instead of in depth analysis into the latest job figures we are treated to a poll quoting an increase for FF (self fulfilling prophecies?) and a casual passing remark about the very important Lisbon Treaty.

Again sorry for asking/semi-asking these questions, enjoying the blog.

Explaining to Fanning what harangued means was nice. Also pointing out the poor wages of Grainne Carruth was very generous.
