I've had the same experience. On my last trip I sat around waiting to find out what was going on "in the world". Stupidly I waited for the top of the hour... whereupon I watched a story of some bear being rescued somewhere. After 90 mins I gave up on trying to find out what was happening outside North America.

In a recent trip to the U.S. I was shocked at how little 'News' was actually being broadcast in the papers, TV and Radio. There is absolutely no 'content', just headlines, no analysts, no commentary, just sound bites. And not vary many, and always in constant repeats, as if the American public could only retail five subjects at a time. Pure indoctrination, mind numbing indoctrination.
