After a few small problems I have managed to install MT BlackList, anti-comment spam software. Its a great little piece of software, not only does it protect against future comment spam, it also goes back and deletes all previous comment spam.
Now to create a good .htaccess file to protect against referral spam.

Is there a text file of the IPs on the MT-Blacklist? There’s nothing like it in the Typepad arsenal and I’m burdened by comment spammers–although they often generate dozens of views every day.
