I think Pfaff is being just a bit optimistic in this one, things could turn out far worse than he seems to envisage. Civil war in Iraq anyone?

Dunno, seems pretty reasonable to me – we cannot continue believing that resistance in Iraqi is perpetrated by small groups without popular support, and the notion of Iraqi nationalism needs to be addressed, rather than blindly continuing our occupation without recognising that there is a growing problem.
The majority of Iraqis welcomed the departure of Saddam, but tolerance of occupying forces can only last so long, esp in light of deals done on oil, the Abu Ghraib fiasco, the US-backed Sharon disengagement plan etc etc.
I agree Niall – things dont look promising for the future of Iraq, even if the occupation ended tomorrow.
