Kevin Drum points to a funny story concerning Dick Cheney.
According to congressional aides, [Sen. Patrick] Leahy said hello to Cheney following the taking of the Senate group photo on the floor of the chamber.
Cheney, who is president of the Senate, then ripped into Leahy for the Democratic senator’s criticism this week of alleged war profiteering in Iraq by Halliburton, the oil services company that Cheney once ran.
….During their exchange, Leahy noted that Republicans had accused Democrats of being anti-Catholic because they are opposed to some of President Bush’s anti-abortion judges, the aides said.
That’s when Cheney unloaded with the “F-bomb,” aides said.
Poor old Cheney, he must be worried about something or other.

The guy is obviously overworked trying to fight both the Iraq war and the decency war at the same time. However, in both cases(copulating with oneself and fighting a war on foreign soil) you should have an exit strategy before you start
After continual character assasination by a bunch of dumbasses who didn’t have the integrity to argue with my policies, I suspect I’d tell someone to get fucked, too. I think the comment, while justified, points to a greater problem in that Leahy’s behavior and Cheney’s response point to the simple fact that politics has become hostile and mean-spirited. It is not about policy issues any longer. It is about clobbering your opponent to the point that you can’t have a decent conversation with him after the debate. I support the GOP in most cases, but I must admit, that this problem really does run both ways.
