Fitna the Movie: Geert Wilders' film about the Quran

Explicit warning:

This video contains some VERY graphic images and audio, please do not watch it unless you are prepared to see and hear them.

BBC news story here.

Personally, I found the film extremely upsetting. If you would rather not experience that upset, do not watch it.

I do see merit in the argument that the film incorrectly equates all of Islam with violence. In many ways it has the propaganda elements and tone of the same Islamic videos it criticises. Western classical music is used as background, instead of arabic chanting. The most extreme Islamists are used to portray Islam as evil, in the same way Islamic videos portray the West as evil.

One could hold up an extreme version of anything and hold it up as representative, but it is not.

All this video does is encourage the polarisation of views, instead of the compromising of views.

Religion is a curious thing.

I think the images are shocking but we have seen them before. However I find more shocking the way they were edited.

Nobody talks about why wasn’t the film broadcasted on Dutch TV, here it goes. Any TV station would ask to see your film before airing it and Wilders refused to show it to the producers beforehand. Even the Muslim public broadcaster offered to show it on their air time if Wilders was to appear afterwards in a debate and HE REFUSED. Basically they offered him a space to excercise his freedom of speech but he doesn’t like Muslims…

Now, about the film, it is just a poorly done pamphlet. And it has blunders:
    – The use of the Danish cartoon was not authorized by the cartoonist. Kurt Westergaard just called Wilders a thief in an interview on Dutch TV.
    – Wilders changed some words on the verses ( I believe soerat 8, vers 60 does not say ‘terrorize’)
    – The image he uses of Van Gogh’s killer is actually a Moroccan raper. Proof that xenophobes think that all Muslims look and act the same?

Now, I am an atheist but this film really insults my intelligence: it is not about the Quran, I mean it is a huge book and he wants to make a film about it in 16 minutes? Please…

I am inclined to agree Andrea. One can’t describe a religion that is over a millenium old in 15 mins, nor can one ascribe to it all of the things Wilder claims.

Sure you can. Let’s see, a guy named Muhammad who’d been introduced to Judaism and Christianity in his travels, decided he wanted power and land. So he used what he’d learned about the other religions to create Islam. In this new ideology, he created hate for Judaism and Christianity in order to have a reason for his army to fight them. He made himself more powerful than Jesus and told everyone he, himself, was the last prophet. He sent his armies out to take all the lands from the Christians and Jews. And the legacy goes on.

Ireland has been taken over by gangs of our own hooded skangers, organized crime and crooked politicians right now. What chance would we stand against determined terrorists of any persuasion?
Haven’t we just emerged from 30 years of destruction by our own terrorists who have shown future terrorists how it’s done.
‘Reaping the whirlwind’ is going to result in a lot of ‘weeping and gnashing of teeth’!

Man, connie, your argument was… interesting. Racist, horribly inaccurate in pretty much every way and so on…. Yeah, I have to say, I saw this and I can’t say I think too much of it.. it’s rather easy to take passages that may or may not be out of context and use them to ‘prove’ a point… I mean, people do it often enough with the Bible too… But this video has nothing new, it’s just a man ranting in the corner.

And Andrea, I think its more a case that Wilders is more intersted in the ‘career of Geert Wilders’ than anything else, a lot of what you say sounds quite on the ball given that..

  6. […] all Muslims as extremists. Or at least that’s what I gather based on the testimonies of those who have seen it. I can’t watch it myself because LiveLeak, the main channel of its distribution to web users, […]

Islam is proven by it’s Quran… what does it say???… World please read these bloodthirsty verses (aka Surah) below…from their own Quran… and be educated to this false evil bloodthirsty religion… remember this is FROM the Quran… (not my opinion… their’s from their Quran!!!)

Surah 9:5 When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them.  Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them.  If they repent and take to prayer and render the alms levy, allow them to go their way.  God is forgiving and merciful.

Surah 8:60 Strike terror (into the hearts of) the enemies of God and your enemies.

Surah 9:14 Fight (kill) them (non-Muslims), and God will punish, (torment) them by your hands, cover them with shame.

Surah 8:13-77 I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.  It is not ye who slew them; it was God.

Surah 5:51 Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends.  They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship will become one of their number.  Allah does not guide the wrongdoers.

Surah 9:73 Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them.  Hell shall be their home: an evil fate.

Surah 9:26 Fight against such of those to whom the Scriptures were given as believe neither in Allah nor the Last Day, who do not forbid what Allah and His apostle have forbidden and do not embrace the true faith until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued.

Surah 48:29 Mohammed is Allah’s apostle.  Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.

Surah 48:29 Let those who would exchange the life of this world for the hereafter, fight for the cause of Allah; whether they die or conquer,  We shall richly reward them.

Surah 2:151 Do not say that those who were slain in the cause of Allah are dead; they are alive, although you are not aware of them.

    Surah 2:190 Fight for the sake of Allah those that fight against you, but do not attack them first.  Allah does not love  the aggressors.  Kill them wherever you find them.  Drive them out of the places from which they drove you.  Idolatry is worse than carnage.  But do not fight them within the precincts of the Holy Mosque unless they attack you there;

Surah 9:38 Believers, why is it that when it is said to you “March in the cause of Allah” you linger slothfully in the land?  Are you content with that life in preference to the life to come?  Few indeed are the blessings of this life, compared to those of the life to come.

Surah 9:41 Whether unarmed or well equipped, march on and fight for the cause of Allah with your wealth and your persons.

    Surah 3:110
Ye (Muslims) are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind…

Surah 3:85 If any one desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him.

Surah 2:193 And fight them on, until there is no more tumult (seduction) or oppression, and there prevail justice, and faith in God (and the religion becomes Islam).

Surah 3:157 And if you are slain, or die in the way of Allah, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all they could amass.”

Surah 2:6 ~ “Don’t bother to warn the disbelievers. Allah has blinded them. Theirs will be an awful doom.”

Surah 2-19 ~   “Fight therefore against them until they worship only Allah.”

Surah 47-4 ~  “When you encounter infidels, strike off their heads until you’ve made a great slaughter among them.”

Carol D, It’s easy to take one verse from a whole surah and use it selectively. However, why don’t you try reading the whole surah, and you will see why that verse appears.
