This is definately a new one on me, a PC cooled not by a fan, but by cooking oil. What will they think of next.

Poor student…
Does anyone know of any nice jobs one can do while studying? No jokes please! lol
Give me Warp 5 Scotty
Slashdot have a link to an interesting Scotsman article, brace yourself:
AN EXTRAORDINARY “hyperspace” engine that could make interstellar space travel a reality by flying into other dimensions is being investigated by the United States government.
The hypothetical device, which has been outlined in principle but is based on a controversial theory about the fabric of the universe, could potentially allow a spacecraft to travel to Mars in three hours and journey to a star 11 light years away in just 80 days, according to a report in today’s New Scientist magazine.
…
if a large enough magnetic field was created, the craft would slip into a different dimension, where the speed of light is faster, allowing incredible speeds to be reached. Switching off the magnetic field would result in the engine reappearing in our current dimension.
The US air force has expressed an interest in the idea and scientists working for the American Department of Energy – which has a device known as the Z Machine that could generate the kind of magnetic fields required to drive the engine – say they may carry out a test if the theory withstands further scrutiny.
But…
However, Prof Hauser, a physicist at the Applied Sciences University in Salzgitter, Germany, and a former chief of aerodynamics at the European Space Agency, cautioned it was based on a highly controversial theory that would require a significant change in the current understanding of the laws of physics.
Bah! Naysayers! 🙂
Pat Robertson does it again
Hot on the heels of his ‘lets kill Chavez’ remark, Robertson has another stonker:
And now Ariel Sharon, who was again a very likeable person, a delightful person to be with. I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. He was dividing God’s land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or United States of America.
God said, “This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone.”
Save me Jebus.
Creative on Podcasting
It seems that Creative have redefined the term podcast, I wonder why.
About podcasts and video blogs
Podcasts, short for Personal On Demand broadCast, are audio files you can download into any MP3 player or computer. These audio files are broadcasted over the Internet automatically to subscribers of specific podcast channels. Video blogs are similar to podcasts, and refer to video files instead of audio files.
WordPress 2
I must say I like the interface in WordPress 2 now that I’ve upgraded, the only problem I am having is I find the WYSIWYG interface a little finnicky. The popup to insert a link takes a while longer to come up, and seeing the formatting is hard without having to click the HTML button…how is everyone else finding it?
Google to Offer Video Downloads, Software Package
Certainly an interesting development(WSJ). The software pack will include:
…Firefox Web browser, a version of Norton AntiVirus software from Symantec Corp., Adobe Systems Inc.’s Reader software, RealNetworks Inc.’s RealPlayer multimedia software, Trillian instant-messaging software from Cerulean Studios and Lavasoft AB’s Ad-Aware antispyware software. Google Pack will also include Google’s own desktop search software, Google Earth satellite imaging and maps software, Picasa photo-management software, Google Talk instant-messaging program, its Toolbar add-on for Web browsers and screen saver software.
It appears to be the first concerted attempt by Google to get software on our PC’s, up to now it’s just been word of mouth.
The Lefty Interview
Kevin’s interview of me appears today over at Disillusioned Lefty.
Stephen's Day in Carrigaline
Ryan has posted some great pics recently, including these ones of the hunt and wren boys in Carrigaline, and some taken on New Year’s Day. Great stuff as ever.
Dubai's ruler Sheikh Maktoum dies
It seems that whenever I leave Dubai these days a ruler dies – I promise I have no connection. September 2004, Sheikh Zayed died not long after my return, and now 2 days after my return, Sheikh Maktoum has died.
